    ABC's of Autumn

    Photobucket

An artist, Mother Nature painting leaves as signs of Autumn's arrival.
Ball gowns of leaves, cover the trees in brilliant colors of red, yellow, orange and dusty brown.
Clothed, ready for a "Farewell Ball"...ready to dance once more a final dance... "the cotillion".
Dancing leaves...changing partners as leaves drift down...dancing  gracefully down to die.
Evoking memories of loss for those who watch them fall, as eventually they land on the earth.
Falling leaves, cooler days and nights signals Summer's farewell, and a time for making final farewells.
Geese heading to warmer climates while gardeners put to bed their gardens.
Harvest winding down as picking of produce slows down and comes to a  halt.
Idle equipment stored, as mechanics work on machines to combat the upcoming onslaught of snow and ice.
Jars of  home canned produce lining shelves of some homes, while at the feeder an increasing number of jays.
Kitchens, full of tantalizing aromas...a gathering place, while outside the wind keens.
Lingering shadows fall as earlier each day there is the turning on of lights.
Mornings, sunrises beginning later each day while hearty birds continue to sing their morning melodies.
Nights continues to get colder, winter is fast creeping near.
Old year drawing to a close...each new day bringing it closer to being obliterated.
Preparations for holidays begin...a quickening pace.
Quest for  animal prey begins in earnest in the woods with no apparent qualms.
Racks on vehicles as triumphant hunters return.
Sweaters being donned as holiday decorations begin appearing in stores.
The cycle of life continuing...autumn marking the continual march of time.
Under piles of leaves the ground goes to sleep protected by nature's umbrella.
Vacancies on signs of hotels and motels..cooler weather and school beginning making them autumn's victims.
Winds colder now, beginning to usher in Winter.
Xing out days on the calendar  realizing that each day is another day closer to Xmas.
Yellow, red, orange, and dusty brown leaves signaling the beginning of the ending of another year.
Zap! the wind blows another leaf to the ground...the wind, no longer a zephyr.
Autumn leaves falling, leaving bare tree branches silhouetted against the sky...Autumn has arrived!

    Autumn Recipe

    Photobucket
okay......so I have to admit it, Autumn is my favorite
time of year. Other people can adore summer
or even spring. But I love Autumn and Her Beauty.
when leaves start turning orange, yellow and red, when
pumkins sit happily on people's porches,
when you can go apple picking and when the air
has a cold snap to it that reminds us that winter is
    coming in several months.
Autumn is such a poetic season. It is a time for pulling back
from all the summer excitement, and relishing
in contemplation and the delicacy of the days.
Whereas Summer comes at us in all it's blazing glory,
Autumn causes us to step back and reflect the change.
It is a time for families and food and the hearth of home.
For centuries people have associated Autumn with
harvest and reaping of all that was so
painstakingly sown. You've worked hard all year,
why not take a little time out to appreciate
    Mother Nature's bounty too.

What a better way to bring in Autumn.....
then to fill your home with aromas of pumpkin and spices..

Here is a recipe that will do just that ......

    Photobucket

    Pumpkin Bread

    3 cups sugar
    1 cup of vegetable oil
    4 eggs
    2 1/4 cups of pumpkin
    3 1/2 cups of flour
    2 teaspoons baking soda
    2 teaspoons salt
    1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    1 teaspoon ground cloves
    1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    1 teaspoon allspice
    1 teaspoon ground ginger

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Cream sugar, oil and eggs until creamy. Add pumpkin and mix.  In a separate bowl, mix all the dry ingredients together. Fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and mix until moistened.  Pour into greased bread pans (you could use 2 large & 1 small or all small).  Bake for 50 minutes or until done for large loaves & 30 minutes or until done for small loaves.

    Bon Appetit..........Enjoy !

    Happy "MOTHER" Earth Day!

    Photobucket

No matter how far you journey

You are always on home ground.

    On Mother Earth.

    And for her hospitality,

she demands so little in return.

That wherever we travel, we respect her landscape.

    Conserve her resources.

    Value her local traditions.

It is only if we travel this way

that we can gift our children

the same green, generous planet to explore.

    Happy "MOTHER" Earth Day!

    Be Still And Listen

I am quiet so that the Spirits
can enter and call my name.
    I listen as they speak
I hold no thought of shame.

They come to me in the silence
of the meditation by the fire.
I open myself to the teachings
and they fill my soul with desire.

The Spirits come to tell me
    things I could not know.
    Of legends before my time
    and where the Spirits go.

They talk of the souls of the departed
sitting at the Wise Council in the sky.
They tell of the coming again
of things we thought had passed us by.

The return of the buffalo on the plains,
the return of the water so pure,
they tell of the peace among the men
who know the land so sure.

    Of hearts in the mending,
    of peace among us all.
    Of great men still standing
    long after the fall.

    Returning to a time
where there was abundance in the land.
And the land was shared by all
    before it left our hands.

No matter what your Native heritage,
you have Spirits of your tribe
reaching out to tell you of the legends.
Be still and listen ... with pride.

    My Love Of My Life

    A husband is someone
    Who is loving and true
    Bringing much joy to
    The things that I do

    The smile he gives
At the start of the day
    Fill me with love
As I start on my way

    Whose sweet love is shown
    By that special smile
That is mine and mine alone
